[00:00:00] Two of the newest Viva Mexico tequilas are here. One of them made from traditional tojona. The other one bottled at still strength from wood fermentation tanks. But which one truly stands out today? I'm going to put them head to head in a blind tasting to find out. Welcome back. I got two of these bottles from Viva Mexico in front of me, and I won't know which one is which until the reveal. On one side, the Hona Blanco produced with an old school way with the.
[00:00:26] The volcanic stone crushing the agave. And the other side, still strength. Moderna Blanco bottled at a powerful still strength. It's a high proof after fermenting in their traditional wood tanks. Both of them are new releases and showcase two very different styles of craftsmanship. Now, to give you a little. How did I do this setup? My wife poured these for me. She wrote numbers on the back of the bottle and numbers on the bottom of the glass. So I don't know what they are until I've drank them and can turn them over. So let's start with what looks to be number one, which would be this side. So let's grab this one here. Let's dive into the nose.
[00:01:06] A lot of minerality, a lot of cooked agave, a little bit of earthiness, some citrus there. All right, let's. Let's dive into the other one. Mmm. Same cooked agave.
[00:01:20] A little more floral, a little more citrus.
[00:01:24] Wow. They both smell very similar.
[00:01:27] One is a little bit bolder in the alcohol than the other.
[00:01:31] This one is a little more citrusy with a light pepper in the. In the smell. Let's dive into the taste.
[00:01:39] Completely different from the nose cooked agave. A real peppery finish, nice sweetness, a lot of minerality. The citrus is almost floral to me, I want to say, not necessarily orange, but the orange blossom. Like, if you smell the flower that had a little bit of orange with it, and it's got a lot of peppery finish. So that one's really good. I really enjoy this. This is nice. Let's dive into this one. Okay. This one's got a lot more sweetness to it. A little bit more of an agave punch, a little bit more minerality. Actually, I pick up a little something else in the taste that I can't put my finger on.
[00:02:18] I got to tell you, both of these are fantastic. This one has. It's a little bit hotter. It has less pepper in the finish. It actually has a little bit of cinnamon in the finish and a really different flavor that's in the backside of it. It's really hard to say which one really is a favorite, but I do like the sweetness of this. I like the floralness of this, that orange blossomness that is so good. Honestly, they're both fantastic. They're great expressions from Viva Mexico and their commitment to traditional tequila is. It's hard to pick, right? If I have to pick one, I'm going to pick this one as my favorite today. Let's see, this one is.
[00:02:55] That's a two. Number two. This one's going to be the Madeira. I did pick up that. It felt hotter to me, a little bit more alcohol, but there was also a flavor that I can't put my finger on in it. And it must be something from the wood. From the wood fermentation.
[00:03:12] So number one to Hona. This tohona to me is so sweet, so citrusy, so floral that, that orange blossom is so nice. And the finish is got a pepperiness to it, but it's super sweetness. So you can't go wrong with either one of these. Viva Mexico is proving once again why tequila lovers respect their craft. Whether you lean towards the tahona crush style or the bold, still strength Madeira, you can't go wrong. Have you tried either of these releases yet?
