Show Notes

In this video, I review Hiatus Tequila Reposado, a standout tequila crafted at NOM 1137 – La Cofradía, S.A. de C.V., ranked #87 of 147 distilleries in Mexico. Hiatus Tequila was founded by Kristopher DeSoto and partnered with Michael Chandler, the American MMA fighter who actually invested in the brand — not just endorsed it. Together, they’re redefining what a celebrity tequila can be: authentic, additive-free, and made with respect for traditional Mexican craftsmanship.

This Hiatus Tequila review breaks down the aroma, flavor, and finish of the Reposado, aged 6 months in reclaimed American whiskey barrels. Expect notes of caramelized agave, roasted red pepper, cinnamon, hazelnut, and vanilla — all silky smooth from start to finish.

I also sat down with Brett Glaze, partner at Hiatus, to talk about their mission, NOM 1137’s production methods, and how this team keeps authenticity front and center.

[00:00:00] Today we're tasting a reposado tequila that's redefining authenticity in the celebrity spirit world. Hiatus Tequila I actually interviewed one of the partners, Brett Glaze. I'll have a link for the video at the end, but now let's get into this reposado and talk about where it's made. Hiatus was founded by Christopher De Soto, who lived in Mexico and wanted to bring authentic, additive free tequila to the U.S. he partnered with MMA fighter Michael Chandler, who's not just an ambassador, but he's an investor. Add in partners like Brett Glaze, who I just recently interviewed, and you can see this team is serious about building a brand with authenticity at the core. Hiatus is produced at NOM 1137 La Cofidilla. It's a family owned distillery with a long history and out of 147 active distilleries, La Cofadilla ranks 87, which puts it right in the middle of the pack. But what matters is how Hiatus uses that distillery. Traditional methods, careful production and staying additive free. Estate grown Blue Weber agave From the tequila Valles 7 to 8 years hand harvested by Jimadoras slow roasted for 36 to 40 hours in stone ovens. Crushed with a screw press. Gentler than industrial shredders, fermented with native yeast. Distilled twice in stainless steel with copper coil stills. From there it's been aged six month in reclaimed American whiskey barrels. When you look at it, it's kind of pale. It's got a little bit of color to it, not, not too much about what you'd expect for a reposado. [00:01:28] On the nose I get some nice caramelized cooked agave. I get a little roasted red pepper, a little bit of cinnamon. [00:01:37] Let's dive in. [00:01:39] It's got a nice mouthfeel. It's got a light sweetness. I pick up a little bit of hazelnut, some vanilla and some spice. It's not an overly complex reposado, but it gives you what you're looking for. It's smooth, it's balanced, and it's very. This repo shows that you don't need a heavy oak influence to make something great. It's additive free, it's clean, it's versatile. Neat or with cocktails, Hiatus delivers. If you want to dive deeper into their story, check out my interview with Brett Glaze. We go into the entire why hiatus is different and the whole story behind it. You tried Hiatus yet? Drop your thoughts below.
