[00:00:00] Can changing distilleries change a tequila enough that you can pick up the old one from the new one blind? Well, we're about to find out. Last week I was in Las Vegas hanging out with Sammy Hagar and spending some time with Dave Sidlick, the CEO of Santos Tequila. And we talked quite a bit about what the next chapter of Santo and their move to the distillery is all about. Well, now I have something I've been waiting to do ever since I got back from Vegas, and that is this Santo. 110 proof against this Santo. Both these bottles are made at completely different distilleries. You'll also notice the beautiful new packaging between these two. They finally moved the 110 over to the new bottle, which, you have to admit, this bottle is really something pretty special. Now I know it's not about the bottle, it's about what's in it. The original Santo 110 produced at NOM 1107 Elvijito in Atatanico, El Alto, Jalisco, Mexico. And the new Santo is coming out, nom 1662 Distillery Union. Same brand, same 110 proof or 55 ABV, but completely different place making the tequila. So the question is, did Santo get better or did it change? Or can I even tell the difference? And today we're going to do this completely blind. You already know about my solar blind. I put the two in here, filled out tag, we spin them around, and now I have no idea which one is going to be which. So I have drank a lot of this one while we were in Vegas. I wanted to make sure I left a little bit here. Did get to spend a wonderful evening with Matt and his wife. The Tactical Tequila Podcast. Check that one out. He and I almost buried this bottle, so I had to kind of hide it a little bit to get it home. So the next job is to figure out, did the tequila get better at the move or is it still the same? So here we go.
[00:01:39] Nice minerality, little vegetal.
[00:01:43] Really nice cooked agave is, you know, that's beyond being said. Both these are going to have great cooked agave in them.
[00:01:50] Not a huge a hit of alcohol like you would expect with the 110. Okay, let's nose the next one.
[00:02:01] Still a lot of minerality, a little bit more vegetal.
[00:02:05] Nice cooked agave to it. There's a note here that I can't put my finger on. It's not in this one. Okay, let's dive into the taste because I did like the nose of this one. Better.
[00:02:16] Nice citrus, nice cooked agave. This one's almost a little sweeter. Little less sweetness in this one. Little more cooked agave in this one. But I really like this vegetal minerality note and this like a nice citrus note that comes through as well. But I will say, even though they've moved and the the process is a little bit different, the agave is a little higher elevation. So there's a few things that are different. They are very similar still. There's not like this outstanding difference in flavor. So I'm going to go out on a limb. I'm going to say this one is my favorite one and this one is.
[00:02:53] This one's my.
[00:02:55] It's. I don't know. This one's good. This one I think is a little bit of an improvement or versus which one is new and which one is old. So I'm going to say this one is my favorite out of these two. So let's this one says old, so this one is new. Okay, so there you have it. You know, the old one was one of the highest rated still strengths on Tequila Matchmaker. In fact, one year, I forget what year it was, they did a blind of still strengths and Santo actually won. A lot of people were very surprised that, you know, that this tequila won, but it did. It's one of my highest rated tequilas on the Tequila Report as well.
[00:03:36] So the new one, a new packaging, new distillery and a little bit better flavor, a little bit of an upgrade. So if you've tried Santo before, make sure you look for the new one, NOM 1662. When this video comes out, I'll be in Cabo San Lucas having a great time at Sammy Hagar's birthday party. Probably drinking a lot of this tequila. So if you can find them, check them out. If you're always looking for good information, check out the Tequila Report at the tequila report.com subscribe. It's free. It's definitely worth seeing. Also, I did get to do an interview with David Sidlick, the CEO of Santo. Really great information about the brand and his background as a CEO, something we're checking out. I'm going to finish mine out with these. So cheers. Thanks for watching. Have a great night.
