[00:00:00] This tequila is built differently, and after finding out that it's really owned by four Navy SEALs, I understand why. Today we're reviewing Emerald Spear Tequila, and this one's special. I just recently got this set down to do an interview with Nick Betts, one of the guys that works with the brand. And after hearing their approach to this tequila and their story, I know why. To me, it was so special. The first time I got to drink this tequila, I got to share it with my friend Sergio Cruz. We were at his house, and he pulled out this brand and talked about how excited he was about it. And I got to tell you, I enjoyed it there, and I've been enjoying it here as well. All right, this tequila is made at nom 1414. So all Highland blue agaves brought into the distillery there, they're cooked in the stone oven. From there, they're going to the roller mill. From roller mill to fermentation, twice distilled in copper pots, and then into this bottle. And I want to mention a little bit about what I learned about this brand. This brand is owned by four Navy SEALs. And where this idea came up with it was on Emerald Island. They golfed a lot. One of the founders is allergic to alcohol. Except for tequila, it's the only one he could drink. So this brand was kind of made out of necessity, so they had good spirits to drink. One thing that's really cool is this part of the bottle right here. You pull this off with a screwdriver, and that is actually the golf ball marker. So pretty cool. The bottle is also shows you the topography of the island. So just a little bit of the story. If you want to hear the full story, go to my YouTube and check out my interview with Nick. Now let's get this thing in the glass and give it a try.
[00:01:41] Okay, here we go. Let's get a nose of this one. That nice 1414 cooked agave. It's got a great cooked agave smell. There's some nice citrus in there, like a little bit of lime zest. There's a. Just a subtle minerality. You get almost like this smell of what I would say a light smell of, like, well, water. So the minerality that you get in that, there's also a little bit of a vegetal note as well. Okay, let's give it a taste. Wow. Leads with the cooked agave. Like, it's just really nice agave. Then that citrus comes through. When I said in the nose, it was lime zest, to me, on the palate, it's a Little bit more of an orange zest with a hint of lemon. There's a nice peppery spice to it mid palate. There's a touch of nice earthiness and minerality. This is a fantastic blanco, the finish of it. Let's take another taste here. It's medium in length. There's that pepper, that citrus, and then a really clean, like, dry sweetness that I really like. It's warmed up so it tastes great in the heat that you get out of it. But the sweetness and the dryness in the mouth is. It's a pretty good touch, you know, after talking to Nick, it made this brand a little cooler for me. I love working with veterans. I love everything that they stand for. And to know that we've got food. Four guys, five counting Nick, that were all in the military. Nick a sniper. The other guy's all Navy seals. And that's just really impressive to me. So. One reason to go get this tequila is support some people that work really hard for our country and put their lives on the line all the time. It's a great tequila. That's another good reason to go buy it as well. You can. You can get it directly from their website. Check out emeraldspear.com make sure you jump over to YouTube to watch my interview with Nick. It'll give you a whole new perspective of this brand. And also he talks about his podcast, which is about talking to soldiers and veterans, both current active duty and people who are no longer in the military, to get their perspective on life after serving.
