[00:00:00] This tequila isn't even on the market yet, and it might be one of the most unique anejos I've ever tasted. It's a high proof Rosa Anejo. I did get the opportunity to taste this before it went into the bottle months ago back in tequila, and I can't wait to taste it today. This isn't a repo. This is on Yeho and this isn't at 40. This is actually bottled at 44.4 ABV. So let's dive into this brand new bottle and see how it tastes.
[00:00:38] Wow, look at that color. Now we're talking about the upcoming Release of Elevation 1250 Rosa Anejo made by Master Distiller Ileana Partita at NOM 1522. And you already know I always love what Iliana is doing there. She makes amazing tequila. This brand, I love it too. Everything they've ever brought out, I've really enjoyed. I look forward to this brand coming to Indiana very, very soon. All right, so this tequila starts out as their Blanco Rosa program. The barrels come from a winery just outside of Napa Valley, California. These aren't dry barrels sitting in storage for a month. Elevation has an exclusive relationship with the winery, and they purchase the barrels wet. Most tequila brands don't do that. In fact, the time that the wine leaves the barrel until the tequila goes in is only about three weeks. That means there's still a lot of that cabernet influence left in the wood. First fill becomes their Blanco Rosa. Then same French oak Cabernet Sauvignon barrels are filled with tequila again and then it rests for 14 months to create this anejo. After that, the barrels aren't thrown away. They end up at a local brewery where they're used again to make a seasonal beer. Now let's talk about that 44.4% ABV. Apparently 4, 4, 4 have some special significance around the table. During the development, El Patty and some others, including Agave Social club, Doug Price thought there was a little bit of magic in the number. So that's where it landed. The 44.4 ABV. Remembering from when I drank it in tequila, I think I like that today is going to remind me of what that flavor is. So the extra proof helps give it a little more flavor, becoming a little more aggressive. Let's dive into the nose of this thing. And you'll notice I did pull out my fancy glass vin drinking glass, because this does give you a little bit better nose for these type tequilas. Okay, so the first thing I get is cooked Agave, that's a great sign. From there, it's layered with some red fruit, some dark cherry, raspberry, maybe even a little bit of BlackBerry. Definitely have that wine influence there, but it doesn't dominate it. I pick up some vanilla, a little bit of oak, maybe even a little bit of cinnamon or barrel spices. And on the top, it's even a little floral. Okay, so let's dive into the palate. First thing I get is elevations unique agave character. Like you taste the gave you taste. To me, I'm going to say sweet potato, pineapple, roasted flavor with a nice sweetness. And then the wine barrel starts to show up with notes of like a red berry, dark fruit, almost like you would get in a in a sherry rested barrel, where I get some of those really nice stone fruit flavors. It's a little tannic as it goes into the finish. That second drink, I get a little more fruit, a little more spice. It's a really long finish that kind of goes between colt agave, oak, and lingering wine notes, which is really nice. The barrel makes it really complex to their normal blanco Rosa. It's just deeper and richer in flavors. This is one that I'm probably going to have to sit with for a while. The key is, though, agave and tequila really are the star of the show. If you're a fan of Rosa tequilas and you're a fan of Anejos, this is really unique. At this higher proof, you get a lot more flavors. I think this is a tequila that you should definitely try if you're looking for a unique dessert type. Anejo, I can't tell that it's at a higher proof as I'm drinking it. Knowing that it is. It's very easy to drink. It has a great mouth feel and just a lot of flavors. This just keeps hanging around. Let me know what your thoughts are are on elevation 1250 and tequilas that come out of nom 1522. Let me know if this is on your radar. If you're going to watch for this one, it's definitely one that I think you should pick up. I hope you're drinking as good a tequila as I am tonight. Cheers. Have a fantastic evening.
