Show Notes

Blind tequila tasting of 4 Double Gold-winning high-proof reposados including Manuscrito, Don Vicente, Lost Lore, and Casa Mexico. Which tequila wins blind?

Today I’m ranking four of the highest-scoring tequilas from the Agavos Awards in a completely blind tasting to see if my palate agrees with the judges.

The lineup:

Manuscrito High-Proof Reposado – 95 Points
Don Vicente Fuerte Reposado – 93 Points
Lost Lore Reposado – 92 Points
Casa Mexico Reposado – 91 Points

These award-winning reposado tequilas all earned Double Gold honors, but once the bottles are hidden, scores, marketing, and reputation no longer matter.

In this blind tequila review, I’m judging each tequila based on:

✅ Aroma
✅ Flavor
✅ Complexity
✅ Mouthfeel
✅ Finish
✅ Overall Enjoyment

Will the 95-point tequila take first place?

Will the Agavos Awards rankings match my blind rankings?

Or will one of these Double Gold winners pull off an upset?

Watch until the reveal to see which high-proof reposado tequila comes out on top.

[00:00:00] These four high proof Reposados all won double gold in this year's Agavos Awards. But today, one of them is going to finish last. We've got Manuscripto reposado with a 95 score, Don Vicente reposado with a 93 score, Lost Lore reposado with a 92, and newcomer to me, Casa Mexico with a 91. These are all award winners, they're all highly respected. And today we're going to have absolutely no idea which one's in the glass because we're going to use the solo blind here and we're going to do a blind tasting and find out which one of these rates the highest with my palette today and see how that matches up with the Agavos Awards. All right, we got these all set up. If you've watched my show before, if you watch the blinds that I do, the bottle, the glass goes in here. There's a name tag on this little back end. [00:00:53] It's put into the solar blind. They're spun around. There's no way to know which one is which. I've poured each one of these. Don Vicente is really amazing to me. Lost Lore is one of my absolute favorites. Manuscript, though, blows me away every time I taste it. And Casa Mexico is a brand new and for me, we'll see how it does. So let's dive right into these and start with the nose. [00:01:15] That's got a really nice petro core. Great cooked agave. [00:01:19] Cooked agave. There's a nice citrusy note, a little bit of funkiness on this one with some cooked agave. The key is, is so far they've all had a nice cooked agave note to them. This one's a little more floral, a little more citrus, a little more cooked agave. Nose wise, I'm gonna say number one, number two, number three, and number four. And here's what I gotta point out that I didn't get was I picked up no Reese's Pieces. [00:01:47] If you've been watching for a while, you'll know that when I dove into Manuscript for the first time, I smelled Reese's pieces. I don't know why, but I didn't get it in here. So maybe that's out of my brain today. So let's dive into the taste. I'm going to start with the one that I rated the lowest on the nose. It's the one that's got a little bit of funkiness to it. There's a nice cooked agave, nice caramelly, a little bit of vanilla in there as well, that's actually a nice tasting tequila. Mmm, Nice sweetness. Good cooked agave. [00:02:20] This one's got a nice cooked agave with it as well. A little bit of citrus, a little bit of lime. [00:02:25] I'm not sure what else that is. They're kind of smooshing together a little bit, but I like that. Yeah. Great sweetness, great cooked agave. Great citrus notes. A little bit of orange, a little bit of lime. It's a little bit floral as well. I'm going to say on that quick taste through. This one is going to be number one in taste and no. So that one right now is my number one. Gonna grab a little water, be right back. Gonna go through these again. [00:02:50] All right. Gonna clean out my palette with a little bit of topo Chico. I wanna taste through each one again. Cause I wanna make sure that I'm evaluating all the way the flavors. I. I probably should have had a little taste of water between because they kind of all smoosh together. So let's dive into this one more time. Wow. I do like the cooked agave in there. It's a really nice sweetness. [00:03:10] I like this one over that one. Okay, so I'm going to say number two, number three, and number four. So let's do the big reveal. Number four is going to be Casa Mexico. Although nice, you know, it's better than what I thought it was going to be. So number three is going to be Manuscript, though, today. That's crazy. Number number two is going to be Don Vicente. Then that means number one today is going to be Lost Lore. Lost. So there you have it. So when you look at how these were rated, manuscript with a 95. Don Vicente with a 93. Lost Lore with a 92. Casa Mexico with a 91. I've got to say, for me today, Lost Lore just took the cake. I bet if I did this again in 5 days, it would be all messed up again. It's all about what your taste profiles are doing each day. I really love all of these brands, so I'm excited to do this. And check out those Agavos Awards and look at all of the people that won. Gold medal, double gold. Let me know what you think of this lineup and which one you think is the best. Thanks for watching. Have a great day.
