[00:00:00] Does tequila actually make you skinny? Or is it just another influencer lie? Let's bust that myth right now. Everybody says tequila is the healthy alcohol. And you've probably heard people say things like, it doesn't give you a hangover, it's cleaner, it's the healthiest alcohol, or even it helps you lose weight. But does tequila actually help make you skinny? Let's separate some facts from marketing. This idea actually started with some research around the agave plant. Inside agaves, there are natural sugars called agavens. Agavins are interesting because they aren't easily digestible by the body. They may help support healthy gut bacteria. And in some studies with mice, they were even linked to weight loss benefits. So when people hear that, they assume tequila must have that same effect. But here's the catch. The agavins are not in tequila. When the agave is cooked, fermented, and distilled, the sugars are converted into alcohol. Those agavens, the compounds connected to the studies, don't survive the distillation process. So the weight loss sugar people talk about are gone before tequila reaches the bottom. A standard one and a half pour of tequila is about 96 calories. That's basically the same as vodka, gin, or whiskey. Alcohol itself contains about 7 calories per gram, which is almost as calorie dense as fat. Here's the part that most people don't realize. When you drink alcohol, your body prioritizes burning alcohol first. So when your body's processing that alcohol, fat burning slows down, your metabolism temporarily shifts, and your body is more likely to store calories instead of burning them. So no, tequila does not magically burn fat. Here's where tequila does have a small advantage. Tequila is usually consumed neat, on the rocks, or in a very simple cocktail. An additive free tequila doesn't have any added sweeteners. Compare this to things like sugary margarita mixes, sweet cocktails, or cream liqueurs. [00:01:59] Those drinks can easily pack 300 to 500 calories. So tequila itself isn't a weight loss drink. But if you're choosing to drink tequila neat instead of sugary cocktails, it absolutely can be a smarter choice. So does tequila make you skinny? No. But tequila can fit into a balanced lifestyle better than sugary cocktails. And yes, if you're intentional about it, moderation wins, hydration wins, and good tequila definitely wins. So if you're going to drink something made right, pick up a glass of velour, pour yourself a nice pour, neat sip on it. And now I want to hear from you what other tequila myths should we bust? Drink what you like, but know what you're drinking. Cheers. Have a great night.
