Can I Find the Reposado? | Blind Tequila Tasting

[00:00:00] Can a barrel rested blanco actually be a reposado? Today we're gonna find out. I've got four incredible tequilas poured completely blind. Three of them are blancos that have been rested or spent enough time in a barrel to pick up some oak and some character without officially becoming a reposado. And then I've got one that's actually a reposado in the mix. Today we have polanco. We've got terra di ensueno, batch 8, manuscrito, quinto cuarto, and an ocho reposado. Now, this one, the challenge isn't just picking up my favorite flavor. I want to see if I can actually tell which one is the reposado. The one thing I love about barrel rested blancos is they can be the best of both worlds. You still get the bright cooked agave, the pepper, the citrus, the minerality. But you start to pick up little hints of vanilla oak, baking spice, maybe even a touch of the caramel without the barrel completely taking over. So let's go through these. As you know, I like to use the solo blind. I've poured each one of these independently, and now it's time to take this apart and see if we can figure out which one is which. Now, what I like about these gold glasses definitely can't see the color, so you don't know. We're going to line them up here, and we're going to quickly nose through them. We're going to quickly taste through them and then figure out if I can figure out which one is actually the reposado. [00:01:17] That's nice. [00:01:19] Okay. Based on the nose, I kind of think that one's the repo. I don't know why. I'm just kind of guessing. But let's go through the taste of each one. [00:01:27] Now, the manuscrito is a higher proof. In Sueno is a 42. The Ocho, it's just a 40. And the Polanco is a 40 as well. [00:01:36] Polanco is to use roller mill, and srito is roller mill. I believe ocho is roller mill. [00:01:42] Hmm. [00:01:44] Wow. Okay. So I really don't know. Like, I really literally can't tell which one of these is a repo. [00:01:52] Okay. I'm still going to go with this one as a repo. So let's check and see. What have we got here? [00:01:58] Oh, the polanco I picked as the repo. So this one is a blanco. [00:02:05] So now let's see if I can find which one out of these three is the repsado. [00:02:12] I'm going to say this one is g manuscript. [00:02:19] Now to give it this a little credit, higher proof. [00:02:24] Now I'm down to which one is Ensueno and which one is Ocho. I thought this would be easier than what it is. I'm going to say this one is on Sueno and this one is oo Ensueno and this one would be Ocho. So there you go. It just shows you that resting in a barrel changes the tequila whether it's for a few days, 45 days or just under three months which is what the rep the Ocho repo is.
