Show Notes

Inside El Sabino Distillery: Tasting Manuscrito’s First-Ever Batch Manuscrito Tequila first batch tasting at El Sabino Distillery in Jesús María, Jalisco. I got to try a rare, never-sold tequila made by master distiller Oscar Vázquez and co-founder Jake Taylor—this is the original 300 liter batch that started it all. This is one of the most unique experiences I’ve had in tequila—standing inside El Sabino Distillery, sipping on Manuscrito’s very first experimental batch that was never released to the public. This tequila was made completely from scratch—harvested, cooked, fermented, and distilled under the direction of master distiller Oscar Vázquez. Instead of small samples, they produced a full 300 liter batch to create a true production profile of what Manuscrito would become. Some of that batch was aged—and what we’re drinking here is over a year old, carrying both incredible flavor and deep sentimental value for the brand. This is the kind of experience you only get by going to Mexico, visiting distilleries, and connecting with the people behind the tequila. If you love tequila, additive-free tequila, and behind-the-scenes distillery content—this one is special. [00:00:00] Speaker A: Sabino and Jesus Maria with the amazing master distiller Oscar Vasquez. What is it that we're sipping on guys? So go for some. [00:00:09] Speaker B: Let's. [00:00:10] Speaker C: So this here in our glass is actually Mono's first inejo but also the very first original recipe ever made. So this has not been sold, not been bottled in the market. But working with Austria we're like hey, we. He made a small 300 liter batch of tequila. Kind of a profile where Mono, what we're looking for. And some of them we put in barrel. So this is actually the original 300 liter recipe. Again not bottled, not sold. Mono. [00:00:42] Speaker B: Yeah. Were you. [00:00:43] Speaker A: Did you use this to convince them to stay here? [00:00:45] Speaker B: Yes, because in the beginning they was asking for a samples, right? [00:00:48] Speaker A: Sure. [00:00:49] Speaker C: Show us what you can do. [00:00:50] Speaker B: One liter. It's very difficult to. To make at least for me. Right. It's. It's kind of weird Brad, but it's more easy to produce a good amount of liters share with 100, 400 in order to be realistic into the production. Right. Because at the end of the day we are not selling samples, we are selling good tequila. Tequila, right. So in those days I, I tell Jay, okay amigo, the only way that we have in order to see what happened with the brand if we are making a big batch. 300 liters. [00:01:20] Speaker A: Well, a big batch. [00:01:21] Speaker C: So like. But Oscar was one of the. The only person that said I will make you from scratch. Harvesting the agave outside here. Yes, cooking it like literally from scratch Agave, not just putting the blends together and samples together. So this is our original profile. This is what we have it all track. I think this, this is over 12 months now. This is, this is because this was back in towards burly early 2020. [00:01:46] Speaker A: Did you say Jack Daniels? How many liters are left do you think? [00:01:50] Speaker C: Oh man. [00:01:51] Speaker B: Well, [00:01:53] Speaker C: we have barrelled in half. [00:01:54] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:01:56] Speaker A: So this is not coming to market because we don't go home till tomorrow. So we're going to finish this off. [00:02:01] Speaker C: Yeah, There we go. [00:02:02] Speaker A: So we're probably going to need some. [00:02:04] Speaker C: The only way that you can bring [00:02:05] Speaker B: this is if you came to visit at his here at El Savino. As can you see Brad and all the friends. We are very open. So busy. Sorry for the dismiss that we have. [00:02:16] Speaker A: This is amazing. [00:02:17] Speaker B: We are focused in the production and we are focusing make good tequilas. [00:02:20] Speaker C: Not to keep talking of it. I mean for us especially a lot of nostalgia, a lot of sentimental value. Like again this is our first batch ever, ever produced tequila that I've never seen the market, but it's so. It's super cool and. And who knows what we'll do with it. Got to keep aging. Got to keep growing. [00:02:34] Speaker A: And I got to say, if you've never been to Arandas or to Jesus Maria or come to these distilleries and meet these fantastic people and spend time in Mexico, don't let what happened just in the past with the. With the violence that went on. Just know that it's safe to come here. [00:02:49] Speaker B: Super. [00:02:49] Speaker A: The people are amazing. [00:02:51] Speaker B: If you are with me, you are safe, you know? [00:02:53] Speaker A: Yeah, actually, you're safe. I'm safe everywhere here. [00:02:56] Speaker C: You really are. [00:02:57] Speaker A: Reach out to these guys. Tell them you want to come to the distillery and check it out. And maybe you'll get to sip on this, too, if there's any left. So cheers. [00:03:06] Speaker C: Thank you. [00:03:07] Speaker B: Salute. Salute. Salute. Salud.
