Show Notes

Is this the Best New Still Strength Tequila?, I’m reviewing a very limited release — only 1,000 bottles made — of Xoloitzcuintle Still Strength Tequila (50.69% ABV / 101 Proof). This is truly one for the collectors and high-proof tequila lovers.

Crafted with 100% Valley agaves from El Arenal and fermented with fibers, this tequila brings a unique blend of flavors and aromas thanks to a process that combines Lowland terroir with Highland fermentation techniques.

In this review, I cover:

✔️ What makes this tequila still strength

✔️ Why Valley agaves create bolder, earthier profiles

✔️ Full tasting notes — minerality, anise, herbal complexity, dark chocolate, jalapeño

✔️ How Ernesto took it to the next level

✔️ Why this limited-edition bottle is worth hunting down

Let me know in the comments if you've tried it — or if it's now on your must-sip list!

[00:00:00] Okay, guys, it's time for a really special bottle. A bottle of the Xolo exquintle, high proof, still strength. This tequila. I got a sample of it today and I'm so excited about bringing it to you. There are only a thousand bottles of this were ever produced. 50.69% ABV, 101 proof, 700 milliliter bottle. One of the things that Ernesto did different in this one and he talks about it in the interview that we did. I'll put a link at the end so you can check it out. But he talks about the specialness of this tequila because all of the other tequilas that he has are higher proof, but this one's higher proof than those still strength. All of the other tequilas that he has, those are all highland agaves and tequila that's made in the highlands. This tequila is all from valley agaves. So they're all agaves from El Reno in the Tequila Valley. They're fermented with fibers. The tequila is rested in steel tanks for the last two years. The tequila is produced in the southern highlands, but the tequila has all the aromas of what you'd get from a tequila that was from the valley. So it's really interesting to have this highland tequila that you're picking up some of the aromas from the open fermentation that they do there to then pick up some of the flavors of the agaves that are coming from the lowlands. So it's really interesting. So. So let's give this. Let's give this a little taste and a little hit here. So first of all, you get this minerality and this, this hit of a nice. And a little bit of dark chocolate. It's got such a really nice flavor. I also get a little sage or rosemary, you know, something that has a really herbal. Yeah, really herbal smell to it. You definitely get a little bit of that alcohol there because you know, it is still strength. This is a really full bodied, really agave forward. Like just an agave bomb. I get a little bit of cinnamon in the finish. I get a little bit of pepper. I think that's jalapeno. Yeah, a little bit of jalapeno in the finish. Yeah, that's. This is incredible. This is a fun sipper. You have a really good blend of the highlands and the lowlands here. Even though all of the agave as lowlands, some of the influence would be from fermentation in the highlands. That'll maybe give you some of those other flavors. It doesn't have the citrus notes and the floral notes that you get from a highlands tequila so you definitely are picking up more of the minerals, more of the the herbalness, that kind of grittiness that you get from the lowlands. I do get a good amount of anise with it as well. Very great flavor. Ernesto, you hit it out of the park with your still strength. It's a shame there's only a thousand bottles of these out there so if you can find one, grab one. I'll put a link in the description of where you can get them. Also flash a link up here of what what the website is for you to be able to find them as well. And thanks for getting me a sample of this. And everybody should try some Xolo Exquintle still strength. The bottle's beautiful too. It's an etched bottle with some great color to it. I'll put a picture of it right here so you able to see the bottle. And thanks for tuning in watching. Have a fantastic night.
