[00:00:00] Speaker A: All right, so I'm back with my buddy Eric.
[00:00:03] Speaker B: Hey, how's it going?
[00:00:04] Speaker A: So today we're going to try a couple things that are really special. One, one that I've never ever talked about on the show. Tears of Viorna.
[00:00:12] Speaker B: That's the big boy.
[00:00:13] Speaker A: Tears is a great, It's a great tequila, right? Made at 11:46. Made the same place to make Donfelano. Enrique Fonseca, who's probably one of the best at barreling tequilas and aging tequilas ever and in the whole tequila world. And you've never had this?
[00:00:31] Speaker B: I've never got to try it. There's Fortaleza, which has always been the unicorn, but then there's one that's they say is the best of the best. And that's it.
[00:00:39] Speaker A: It's really good. And then you brought something I've never had.
[00:00:42] Speaker B: We brought the el Teo especial 50th anniversary. I brought it back from Tequila when I went there last year. Something a little different.
I'm usually.
I like their.
The Repo Grand Reserve repo and it's real good for if you, if you have friends that like bourbon and then pour them some of the El Tequeno repo, the Grand Reserve, but got the Nejo because I can't get that here. So I went ahead and brought a bottle of that back to.
[00:01:11] Speaker A: I can't, I can't wait to try. I've never had that one. And I love El Teleno. And the tequila from there is always so fantastic. Now you, you and I are alike. We're both blanco drinkers.
[00:01:24] Speaker B: Absolutely.
[00:01:24] Speaker A: The Eltech Elena still strength. It's one of my favorite still strengths. And there's only a teeny bit left of what I have.
But you know, when you, when you get into tears, when you get into these, you know, really special anejos tears is really good to me. It is one that's just, it's got a great nose, it's fruity, it's got all of these barrel notes. It's got all of the, the French oak, the American oak, all of the smells that are there that are so good. It's such a great tequila.
[00:01:57] Speaker B: Got beautiful color.
[00:01:59] Speaker A: Oh yeah, it's just, it's, it's, it's an amazing tequila. Right. But it's not one that you dive into every day, you know, because one.
[00:02:06] Speaker B: It'S a 300 plus dollar bottle.
[00:02:09] Speaker A: Yeah, it's expensive.
[00:02:10] Speaker B: But I can't tell you how many times I walked by at the big box store and Looked at and been like, ah, someday, Someday.
[00:02:16] Speaker A: Did you just walk past? You don't buy one?
[00:02:18] Speaker B: No, I just. I walk past and I'm like, ah, there's so many other tequilas I still want to. And I have.
[00:02:23] Speaker A: I have to say, when I walked past it, if I didn't have one on my shelf, I would buy one. This. You're gonna have to go tomorrow and.
[00:02:31] Speaker B: Pick up the bottle they have behind the glass.
[00:02:32] Speaker A: They have behind the glass. And I'm telling you, it's great stuff. It's not something I sip on every day.
My wife and I just got the opportunity to visit 1146 and go through their whole process, go through where they showed, you know, where, where all of the agave came in, going into their. Their low pressure autoclaves, where they cooked them to their. The screw mill light. So Enrique has a screw mill that separates all of the agave, but it doesn't tear or rip open the. The fibers of the agave. Then it goes into some roller mill from there and then into these giant fermentation tanks. And the fermentation tanks are some of the biggest ones that I've ever seen. And I'm a little bit scared of heights now that I'm old. I didn't used to be, but now that I'm old, I go up steps. I'm worried. And we go up these huge steps to the top of these giant tanks. There are thousands of liters of tequila. And seeing where it's all fermenting. And then we got to go down to where they have their stills, a couple of pot stills, which are really cool. They actually have a column still at the same distillery. Not used for tears, of course, some really cool pot stills. And then we went into their bottling facility, which was awesome. But the coolest thing was when we. We got to go downstairs into the cellar where all the barrels are, and there's. I have a little video of it. We have a room that was the, like, Don Fano tasting room in the basement of this cellar. And we got in there and our person that was giving us our tour pulled off probably, I'm going to say, 15 different tequilas to taste from tears to Fuente. 20 year, 15 year, 5 year, 7 year, like all of them. And we got to taste through all of the barreling. And, you know, they, they make a great tequila here at this distillery. They make this, right? Cimarron. Cimarron is one of your least expensive great tequilas to buy to make any kind of drink with. It's A good sipper and. And it's coming out of the same place where they make tears. And the difference is the barreling. Right. To take this tequila, which is just a nice. This one's a repo, but, oh, no, sorry. This is a blanco. A great, you know, 1 liter, 25 or 29 bottle of tequila.
[00:05:04] Speaker B: I would call it a well. A well. Tequila for tequila lovers.
[00:05:08] Speaker A: 100 agree. And yesterday we were at Sun King. Right. Sun Cream Sun. Sun King is a brewery here in Indianapolis. And we did a full tour. They sponsor my podcast, Real Estate Makes a Drink. Check that out on the page. I'll put a link here and you could go look at it. But the. The only Tequila they had for their drinks was Cimarron.
[00:05:29] Speaker B: They can't go wrong with that.
[00:05:30] Speaker A: So I ordered a Paloma with no Paloma in it. Just wanted a glass of Cimarron because I can't drink beer. And I thought it'd be awesome to have some great, you know, cheap, additive free, inexpensive tequila. But this place is creating something like this. But then again, something like this as well. A true masterpiece. So definitely check it out.
Eric did something really cool. My buddy Brian on my podcast Real Estate Makes a Strength, is going to run a marathon. We're raising money for a local charity. It's a food bank on the south side of Indianapolis. And he tossed in an extra 20 bucks to help out with the fundraising that we're doing on that. I'll put a link about here so you can check that video out about Real Estate Makes a Strength. And let's. Let's hit this one. Salute my friend.
[00:06:21] Speaker B: Wow.
What do you get that's next level?
[00:06:27] Speaker A: So if you were a bourbon drinker.
[00:06:29] Speaker B: I could definitely see a bourbon drinker loving this.
[00:06:31] Speaker A: Yeah, it brings all of those bourbon influences, all of those barrel influences, but.
[00:06:36] Speaker B: It still has agave, which is important to me. There's some. There's some anejos that they just lose the agave. And at that point you're like, why? But this still has the agave. But yeah, it's.
It's next level.
[00:06:50] Speaker A: How Enrique has learned how to age these barrels to keep the agave flavor forward and then have all of the influence of the barrel. It's really. It's really phenomenal. And this, I mean, sure, it's a $300 bottle, right? But it's worth every penny. It's not something you're going to drink every day. This hangs around a little bit. I actually usually have a, like a silicone tape, you know, to make sure that the flavors are ensured. You know it, it doesn't lose anything. But this is when you pop out, you. You taste it for special occasions, like when one of your people that watch your videos want to come over and have tequila.
[00:07:30] Speaker B: A wedding time to bring it out. If you had a daughter and the son in law comes over, you break it out. But I'll say it this with the Sun King, if they have Cinnamoron as their well, that's when you know you have someone who knows what they're talking about Tequila instead of, I mean, how many times you walked in, they have Jose Cuervo and you just look and.
[00:07:47] Speaker A: God, I can't do it. No doubt.
[00:07:48] Speaker B: Can't do it.
[00:07:49] Speaker A: So I have water. I had Kevin on the podcast Real Estate Makes a Strength from Sun King, talking about their process and when he came in the door. So if you ever watch Real Estate Makes Us Drink. Brian, my podcast mate, is a beer drinker. He doesn't like tequila. He has zero profile of being able to taste something. He has no taste. He has zero taste. He doesn't like anything. That's good. And when Kevin came in here, we walked in, we sat down, I said, what do you want to drink? And he's like, G4, can I have some G4? Like that's his favorite tequila. You wore it. That's my day represented. So I poured in some G4 and Brian's like, oh, great, another guy that's coming here that likes tequila. And so we had a great beer talk. Right. And they do Sun King now sponsors our real estate makes a string podcast. But he's a true tequila lover. G4 is his favorite.
[00:08:42] Speaker B: Absolutely.
[00:08:42] Speaker A: I introduced him to five or six, maybe different ones. So we had a great time.
[00:08:47] Speaker B: Yeah, we had to talk earlier and I. We went to El Padillo, me and my brother, and actually got to meet the mad scientist himself, Felipe Camarena. And place is beautiful out there.
[00:08:57] Speaker A: Oh, it's so awesome.
[00:08:58] Speaker B: Jesus Marie. Just. Just a beautiful location, everything. And I mean, I can't pass up G4 as a daily drinker. But this, like I said, this is something next level. You take the unicorn, which is Fortaleza, and then you have this, which is just right up.
[00:09:14] Speaker A: I think it fits in the unicorn category.
[00:09:16] Speaker B: Oh, absolutely. Right. It's one of those things where you wouldn't want to drink it every day because you would be ruined for life. You couldn't drink anything else.
[00:09:23] Speaker A: This is true.
[00:09:24] Speaker B: Very special occasions. You got a friend that comes in from out of country or something like that you give them a pour of this and it's a. It's a real special, special thing. I'm glad, glad I got to try it. I've been eyeballing it for quite a while.
[00:09:37] Speaker A: You know, if you have that big time bourbon fan too, this is something.
[00:09:41] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, absolutely.
[00:09:42] Speaker A: Now I'm excited about this. Right. I've never had this. Right. This is Eltechileno. Bring some of the best tequila to me. NOM 1108 is so special. We have. I have so many on the shelf. I love their high proof, I love their blanco, I love their repo and anjo. And what's cool about this is this is. This is a Mexican tequila.
[00:10:04] Speaker B: Right?
[00:10:04] Speaker A: This is a 38 ABV, so it's a little bit lower proof. It's an anniversary tequila for them. And I've never had it, so I. I love it.
[00:10:14] Speaker B: We're gonna give a shot.
[00:10:15] Speaker A: Yeah. I'm pretty excited about giving it a try.
And so I don't know how it's.
[00:10:21] Speaker B: Gonna hold up against tears. So maybe we should have done it the other way around.
[00:10:23] Speaker A: I don't think so though. So. So this is more agave forward to me. I had a lot more agave flavor or smell in the nose.
I get a little less barrel influence right there. So you get that, must I call it a musty smell. And that sounds like a negative thing, but musty in a barrel. It's not a negative thing. That's part of that barrel influence.
[00:10:46] Speaker B: I'm not sure how long they do age that for. I didn't bother to look and check before, but yeah, it doesn't say on the bottle.
[00:10:53] Speaker A: And I don't, I don't want to say on here because people will correct me in the comments.
[00:10:57] Speaker B: We don't want to guess, but.
[00:10:58] Speaker A: And I don't mind when people correct me in the comments. I think it's awesome.
[00:11:01] Speaker B: You got anywhere between what, 13 years for a naho? So it could be.
[00:11:04] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:11:05] Speaker B: So this is pretty broad.
[00:11:06] Speaker A: You know, it's not. Not super dark. Right. But you know, when you're talking about tequila, we like to have tequila be the agave to be the forward.
[00:11:16] Speaker B: Absolutely.
[00:11:17] Speaker A: And you know, Tony Salas is absolutely an amazing master distiller. He's taken over from the family. This tequila has been around since 1959. Their distillery is absolutely awesome.
[00:11:27] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. They treat you like a king in there. And due to the pour through, I mean, they're reposado grand reserve for. Especially for the bourbon lovers. If you have a bourbon lover Friend right next to it. The repo Grand Reserve is the. The one I always give to my bourbon friends. And I've had two or three be like, well, after they tried it, they're like, well, I'm gonna get a ball.
[00:11:48] Speaker A: That and their. Their still strength is freaking, dude, it's so good. And you know, if you're gonna go to Tequila and if you ever want to go and you have questions about traveling to Tequila, send me a dm. I can help you out with finding some people that will help you out with some tours. But Casa sell us their hotel, which is right there in their distillery.
[00:12:09] Speaker B: Is absolutely beautiful place.
[00:12:10] Speaker A: Great, beautiful hotel, great food, great drink, kind of bougie. I don't like to stay. I'm. I gotta admit it, I'm a little bougie. But a great place to stay when you go to Tequila. It's in walking distance of downtown Fortaleza Rette, Casa Reyes. You can walk past all of the really cool stuff and you get to, you know, look into Arete where you have these small batches being made, and then stare into salsa where they've got these tanks that are150,000 liters of tequila. So it's very cool to check it out. So there's a couple there. Let's give it a shot again.
[00:12:49] Speaker B: I haven't drank this since we. I think we've had it once since I've come back from tequila last year. But.
[00:12:57] Speaker A: I love the. I love the agave and the barrel notes there. It's very.
[00:13:01] Speaker B: It's light though. I mean, with the.
[00:13:03] Speaker A: It is light. It's not as heavy as what this is.
[00:13:05] Speaker B: Right.
[00:13:06] Speaker A: Doesn't. Doesn't have the. The mouth burn of right proof.
[00:13:11] Speaker B: So someone who's not.
Not a huge tequila drinker yet, I think it'd go well for. Because it's not a very overbearing. Now, like, Like I said, we're both blanco people. We like that agave forward. We like that in your face kind of.
[00:13:25] Speaker A: But it's 38 ABV. You still get a great agave flavor. You get some vanilla, some caramel. I actually get a little bit of creme brulee like that, that. That burnt sugar.
Really nice flavor. This is a really good tequila.
[00:13:44] Speaker B: It's nice. Mellow. Again, it's not. It's not in your face. It's not going to say POW.
[00:13:48] Speaker A: But that's a 38 ABV though.
[00:13:50] Speaker B: Yeah.
For someone who's not a huge tequila person and is getting into the game, I think it's A good way to start off.
[00:13:59] Speaker A: Well, if you get into the game here.
[00:14:00] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:14:01] Speaker A: It's not going to take very long. We're going to end up here, right? Or here.
[00:14:04] Speaker B: Yeah. Oh, wow.
[00:14:06] Speaker A: What. What was the price on that?
[00:14:08] Speaker B: I don't remember. I think it was around $80. I mean, I don't remember the exchange rate for it. Again, it was. It was a bottle that I can't get in Indiana. And I'm looking through everything they had get online, seeing what I can see, and I couldn't get that. And they only had one bottle that there. And they were kind of questionable even selling it to me.
Then they like, well, are you really a tequila fan? I'm like, man, that's my jam. So they're like, well, we can sell one bottle. So I was like, I'll take it.
[00:14:34] Speaker A: That's fantastic.
[00:14:35] Speaker B: I'll take it.
[00:14:36] Speaker A: When we were at the hotel, they didn't. They didn't even have that at the hotel. We had several. I actually, we were fortunate enough to be at the hotel when this was being released, so it wasn't even in the states yet. And we got the. Have it at the. At the restaurant. And seriously, if you're going to go to Tequila, Casa Salas is a great place to stay. The tour is amazing.
[00:14:58] Speaker B: Oh, tour is great. The people there are fantastic. Super nice. The guy that gave us a tour, he was. It was cool as could be.
Like I said, I can't complain. It was kind of a whim. We wanted to go to Fortaleza when we were in tequila. And then we're looking for any other one. I couldn't find the entrance to Rete and then we saw El Tequinhos. It a shot. I've never had it before, and I'm glad we did. I mean, it worked out really well. And like I said, I took that bottle home after trying it and Reposado, a grand reserve reposado I bought. I'm think I'm on my second bottle of that since we've come back and I give it out to people that again, we're in Indiana, so we're in bourbon country. So all my bourbon friends, I'm like, well, you got to try the grand reserve reposado. And everyone. I'm like, yeah, that's my new tequila.
[00:15:44] Speaker A: We. We're eventually going to switch them all over. Hell with that bourbon.
[00:15:47] Speaker B: Yeah, it's. It's hard in Indiana to get good tequilas. A lot of times we get. We can get a lot of good tequilas, but not all of them. There's a lot. A lot of stuff we can't get here, unfortunately, but we're working on that.
[00:15:59] Speaker A: We're trying to make it better excuse.
[00:16:00] Speaker B: To go to Mexico.
[00:16:01] Speaker A: Exactly.
[00:16:01] Speaker B: Say go, go eat, drink tequila and eat street tacos. What more can you ask for?
[00:16:05] Speaker A: And some tostados.
[00:16:06] Speaker B: Oh, absolutely.
[00:16:07] Speaker A: Thanks for tuning in, guys. Have a great night.
[00:16:10] Speaker B: Cheers.
