[00:00:00] Most coffee liqueurs have one big problem. They're loaded with sugar. You get a little bit of coffee, a whole lot of syrup. But what if somebody made a coffee liqueur that actually tasted like coffee and tequila? Today we're going to look into oral Mexican coffee liqueur. And this is unlike anything I've ever had before. So let's dive into this one. First. Let's get to know the bottle Orel is made by the team behind Cambio Tequila. I was having a talk with Chef John and he told me about this, and he had my attention when right off the start, what they start with is the Cambio Blanco tequila from the highlands of Jalisco. That means they're not trying to hide the agave, they're trying to showcase it. They source the coffee beans from Chiapas, Mexico, one of the country's best coffee growing regions. And here's something I really like. Instead of loading it with sugar, they use just a small amount of Veracruz cane sugar. Only about 50 grams in this entire bottle. That's dramatically less than most coffee liqueurs that you'll find on the shelf. The coffee's extracted in two different stages. If you know anything about Chef John, he doesn't do things the easy way. He tries to do them the way that the flavors are going to be outstanding. So they actually built two systems to make this coffee. First, the coffee comes from a warm infusion to pull out the rich coffee oils and aromatics. Then they follow it with a 40 hour cold brew extraction. He said they built a 1500 liter extraction machine to do this that brings out some chocolatey notes and reduces the bitterness. It's a really crazy approach. And with Chef John, everything he does tastes phenomenal. So you know it's going to be good. So let's see how it works. And we're just going to pour it straight into a glass and sip it. But I will tell you, one of the things that I've done with this is I've made an espresso martini with it a couple of times. It really doesn't take a whole lot. A little bit of water and you shake the heck out of it with some ice. You pour it into that martini glass, and I'm telling you, it is phenomenal. So this one, I'm going to nose and taste it just like it is coffee and tequila. And first I want to say coffee and tequila to me go great together. My favorite drink is a carillo, which is espresso tequila and a little bit of liquor. 43. I have them every morning when I'm in Mexico. I would have them every morning here too, but I wouldn't get any work done. So let's dive into the nose of it. Definitely get the tequila, definitely get the coffee. It smells like a dark roast espresso. You do get flavor of tequila or the nose of tequila. But the coffee is the biggest thing. So let's taste it. I'm telling you, that right there is an espresso martini. Just a neat at room temperature. It's not sweet, it's real coffee. And the agave from their blanco really shows through. You get a little bit of minerality, you get a little bit of dark chocolate, you get this nice coffee flavor. This is really good. So first of all, this is a 40 proof liqueur. So when you're looking at some of the liqueurs that are out there, that's full of syrup and full of sugariness, it's also not 40% alcohol like this one is. It's really good. I gotta say, as this has been sitting here, the finish is really long. The coffee keeps hanging on. It's got a nice flavor of cooked agave and coffee. It's not an overwhelming sugarness. It's like a nice lasting espresso. It really makes me want to drink more of it. Who's this for? If you're expecting something super sweet, some coffee liqueur that you've had before, this isn't it. But if you love quality tequila, you love black coffee, you enjoy the bitterness of the espresso over sweet dessert drinks. I think this one's going to be something that you really, really appreciate. I can absolutely see sipping this knee after a nice dinner, maybe even with just a large cube in it. I'm not one that usually puts ice or a cube in it, but this would be one that would taste great that way. Or you know, shake it up, make an espresso martini out like I've done. It's really good.
