Casa Azul Orgánico Tequila Blanco Review | Is It Worth Buying?

Is Casa Azul Orgánico Tequila Blanco worth buying?

In this review, I take an in-depth look at Casa Azul Orgánico Tequila Blanco, an additive-free, USDA Certified Organic tequila now produced at NOM 1646 (Destiladora La Roca).

We discuss why founder Lance Collins, known for building brands like Fuze, CORE Hydration, and BodyArmor, entered the tequila industry and why the brand chose to move distilleries in pursuit of higher quality.

Production methods covered in this review include:

• Estate-grown mature Blue Weber agave

• Traditional brick oven cooking

• Roller mill extraction

• Open-air wild yeast fermentation

• Double distillation in stainless steel alembic stills with copper coils

• Proofing with deep well spring water

During the tasting, I discuss notes of cooked agave, lime, grapefruit, fresh-cut grass, wet stone minerality, mint, rosemary, black pepper, and a light briny finish before answering the question: Is Casa Azul Orgánico Tequila Blanco worth buying?

If you enjoy tequila reviews, production methods, and additive-free tequila, be sure to like, subscribe, and leave a comment with your thoughts on Casa Azul Orgánico.

[00:00:00] What happens when a guy behind brands like Fuse, core hydration and body armor decides to make a tequila? Well, that's exactly what we're going to find out today. I've been seeing Casa Azul Organico all over social media, and I'm really excited to finally give it a try. So today we're going to see if tequila actually lives up to all the attention it's been getting online. Before we get started, I want to thank the team over at Casa Azul Organico for sending me this bottle for this review. One thing that really stood out to me while researching this brand is the person behind it, Lance Collins. He has built some incredibly successful beverage companies, but instead of putting his name on it like another celebrity tequila, he set it up to build an independent brand focused on quality and transparency. And to me, that's pretty cool. Even more interesting, they've actually moved production to NAM 1646 Distilladora LaRocco. I never had a chance to try the original version, but I really respect a brand that's willing to change distilleries because they believe they can make even a better tequila. This tells me they're chasing quality, not just sales. Casa Azul is doing a lot of things that I personally like to see. They're using 100% certified organic blue Weber agave grown on a single estate in Jalisco. The agaves are allowed to mature seven to nine years, is what they say in their paperwork before they're harvested, giving them plenty of time to develop natural sugars. Instead of relying on shortcuts. Later, they slow cook them in traditional brick ovens for two to three days, extract the juice with the roller mill, and then ferment in open air tanks using wild yeast. And if you've watched this channel for a long time, you know I'm a huge fan of wild fermentation because I think every distillery develops its own unique character from the native yeast living in its environment. After fermentation is double distilled in stainless steel stills fitted with copper coils. Then it rests for two months before it's bottled, and it's proofed down with natural spring water from nearly 900ft under the ground. Overall, that process checks all the boxes for me. So let's get it in the glass. I like the blue bottle. I like the cap they have on it. I think it's pretty cool there. So the whole packaging is pretty nice. [00:01:50] Nice, clean, clear, blanco. I like that. Okay, get on the nose. Really nice coke they got me. There's fresh lime, some grapefruit I really love it when I get that earthiness and the smell of fresh cut grass. The smell of this is really bright and clean. And there is a little bit of like, like a crack of pepper. Let's dive into this one. Nice cooked agave. I get a little bit of lime. I get a little bit of that wet stone. It's very herbal mid some mint, some rosemary. That's pretty complex. There's a lot of different flavors there. I really like the agave sweetness that's there too. You get a nice roasted agave that blends really nice into this min minty lime zest. The finish is it's clean. There's a black pepper that kind of builds in there. It's been a little bit of citrus and it is a little salty, like a briny note. This is a very nice sipper. This tequila really is better than what I thought it was going to be based on all of the reviews and the videos that I've seen about it. So does it live up to the hype? I'm going to say yes, it does. I think it probably needs to be hyped a little more. So more people need to be talking about this one. Whether this ends up being your favorite tequila or not, I think this brand is making great decisions and I do think they've hit a really nice space and where they're at at nom 1646 and how they're making this today. This is a simple tequila that I would dive into all the time. Let me know in the comments if you've had this tequila, what your thoughts of it are. I finished this off so I can't. I can. Cheers. This a little bit. This lap. Until next time. Cheers. We'll see you for the next review. Have a great night.
