[00:00:00] Is this going to be the best Tequila I have ever had? Today we're going to find out. Costcoine released its 5525 to honor 70 years of tradition and innovation. Today, I'm experiencing this bottle for the very first time with you. Fresh pop, honest reaction. So let's crack into one of the most talked about Costcoine releases of the year and see what makes this anniversary bottle so special. This isn't just another special edition. [00:00:26] 5525 is a tribute to seven decades of the Cascawine legacy. The name represents the duality that defines this brand. 55% tradition, 25% innovation, and the idea that great tequila honors the past while pushing the future forward. All right, let's break it down. All those things that I really get excited about, because this bottle really does deserve it. The agave came from the Arenal area, Casco Wien's home region. Agaves were planted in 2017. They were harvested in 2024, slow cooked in the brick ovens for 72 hours. A classic Costco patient. Traditional and deliberate extractions from the roller mill. And the fermentation is a mix of their brick tanks and their stainless steel tanks, keeping one foot in tradition and one foot in innovation. First distillation, called Ordinario, is done in stainless steel with copper coils. And. And second distillation is all copper pots. And the tequila came out at 54.5 ABV. Now this is where 5525 gets its character. 90% of the batch went into ex sherry barrels filled at 45 ABV. 40 barrels filled, but only 29 of them were dumped around 44 ABV. Then they pulled the regular Costco Plata 48 and filled three American oak barrels at 47% ABV. Everything was blended together, creating about 7,300 bottles. And here's what I'm really excited about. What's going to happen to those other barrels that are still sitting aging with that cascaline in those sherry casks? The future will tell. This is extremely limited. It's mostly only available at the distillery, some spots in Jalisco and maybe someday in the US eventually. And I want to say thanks to Chava and also thanks to my friend Johnny Rodriguez, who visited the distillery and was able to bring this back for me. All right, let's do the fresh pop. Fresh po. Part of me was not going to ever open this, and another part of me thought I have to taste it. So I figured it'd best to do it right here. Okay, let's go ahead and give this a pour. [00:02:31] Wow, look at that color. Holy cow. [00:02:35] Wow. It is definitely Costco. You. You can smell the root base of what all Costco tequila smell like. It does smell very rich. [00:02:44] I'm. I'm shocked at how oily it is on the glass. Like, it's really leaving some amazing legs on this glass. I'm getting a buttery chocolate smell. I'm getting a little bit of a herbal smell. Getting that sherry influence, some of that stone fruit, apricot, pear type fruit finish in this. All right, let's take a good sip. Okay. The mouthfeel on that is insane. It's so silky. It's buttery. I get a really nice chocolate coffee. Vanilla. That coffee is wild that way. That flavor just keeps coming in. The way it coats your mouth is really amazing. Like this. I don't know that I've had a tequila with that mouth feel. Definitely has the minerality of Casca Wien, but the fruitiness and the butteriness of this is amazing. That chocolate and butter, it's got just a lot of creamy butter taste to it. This is pretty amazing. This is definitely a celebration of Costco Wien's past and their future. And you can taste it right in the glass. You get that classic Cascaween flavor with these amazing flavors of this new barrel. And I'm really excited about this bottle. I look forward to visiting Cascoine in January. I have to say that if you can find this bottle out in the wild, buy it. You cannot be disappointed any way, shape or form. Costcoine has more bottles on my shelf right here, that distillery than any other distillery in Mexico. They're making some of the best tequila. Chapo Rosales is one of the masters at making fantastic tequila. So don't pass this one up. It is absolutely amazing. I can't wait to finish sipping on this. I wish I could shoot it through the screen for you all to taste it. If you like reviews and you like learning about new tequilas, please subscribe.
